John Cheshire, Sr.'s Will, March 1746, St. Mary's County, Maryland

In the name of God Amen, I John Cheshire Sr Being very Sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in form and manner following:

Item. I give and bequeath unto my loving son Jonathan Cheshire, one bay mare and colt and I give and bequeath unto my youngest son John Cheshire one sorrel mare colt and one black mare colt of two years, one plack pide cow yearling unto the said John Cheshire and one black cow yearling unto Jonathan Cheshire.

Item. I give unto my son Tensan Cheshire one gray gelding and one roan gelding, I give unto my son Philemon Cheshire one black horse colt. I give unto my daughter Mary Noble one bridle heifer and all the residue and remainder of my personal estate with the plantation whereon I now dwell, I let my loving wife Priscilla Cheshire have the use of it during her widowhood and at her marriage or death to return unto my son Tenesan Cheshire.

In witness whereof I have set my hand and affixed by seal this 19th day of January 1746
