Lyman Family


Richard Lyman, was born in 1580 at High Ongar, England. He removed to America in August, 1631; landing at Boston 11th November, 1631; became a settler in Charlestown, and with his wife, Sarah Osborne, joined the Church in what is now Roxbury on 15th October, 1635. Along with about 100 persons he became one of the first settlers of Hartford, Connecticut, and one of the original proprietors of the town. He died in August 1641. His name is inscribed on a stone column now standing in the rear of the Center Church of Hartford, erected in memory of the first settlers of the city.
