January 1, 1866. Henry Sain, colored orphan, age 4, bound to Enoch Sain until the age of 21. Freedmen's Bureau Indenture of Apprenticeship - Hardeman County. Henry Sain is listed in the household of Enoch Sain, Hardeman Co., TN 1870.

From the Bolivar Bulletin, 1896-7 Feb - Died James Sain in Fannin Co., Texas, 23 Jan 1896, born in Rowan Co., NC 29 april 1822. Moved to Gibson Co., Tenn with parents in 1835 remaining there 2 years. They removed to Hardeman Co., and settled near Middleton. Married three times. 1st to Miss Macon, sister of Whit Macon, by whom he had 6 or 7 children, 4 still living, William Sain, Calvin Sain, Enoch Sain, and a daughter Mrs. Elkins, now living in Ark. Married 2nd Mrs. Henson formerly Miss Cearley, by whom he had 2 children, 1 of whom survives. Married 3rd Miss Martha Angeline Cosby by whom he had 7 children, 4 living. Mrs. J.J. Hazlegrove, Mrs. Hester McDaniel, and Mrs. D.A. Bailey are sisters of deceased. Left Hardeman Co. in Nov 1894 forTexas, moving to Grayson Co., and later to Fannin where he died.

Hardeman Free Press: 1896-31 Jan - Died 23 Jan. near Sherman Texas, James Sain, born in NC on 29 April 1822 and moved to Hardeman Co., about 60 years ago. Lived here until 12 Feb 1893 when he moved to Texas. Leaves several children and a number of grandchildren.

James Sain's son, Calvin Sain (1845-1928) and Calvin's wife, Sarah Sasser (1841-1989), are buried at Sasser Cemetery off of Hebron Road in Hardeman Co., TN
