Wagemann Family

First Generation

Two young men, Andreas (1758-1779) and Johann George Wagemann (1760-1800) are mentioned in the early Moravian records in NC, initially as apprentices . Thanks to Patricia Berg, we now know that they were brothers, sons of Anna Free Wagemann who came from Broad River SC to Salem in 1766 with the two boys, having left their father.

Andreas died of smallpox as a young man. Johann George married Anna Rosina Beroth, daughter of Johannes and Catherine (Neumann) Beroth, and ran the paper mill at Bethabara until his death in December 1800. In May 1801 Anna Rosina married Joseph Gambold, apparently at the request of the community who needed someone to take over running the mill.
