Although John Adam Kiger was a Lutheran, he was closely associated with the Moravians. In 1778 Adam Geiger/Kiger donated 102 acres (located in present day Rural Hall NC) to the Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church. The church was soon erected and served the community for 94 years. (This church was sometimes called Beaver Dam Church, Fessler's Church and eventually came to be known as Nazareth Lutheran Church. In 1863 the congregation sold 92 acres to John W. Bostick. In 1878 the present church was built and is still serving the community. A great many of the Kigers listed below are buried in the Nazareth Lutheran Graveyard.

(Who is William Kiger, age 42, with wife Nancy, age 40, found in the 1850 Forsyth County Census? William Kiger married Nancy Slaughter in Stokes County in 1830. Nancy is probably the daughter of Samuel Slaughter who came to NC from Lunenburg Co. VA Children listed in census for William and Nancy are - William 12; Francis, 9 and Martha J. Merritt, age 16. Note: In the 1850 Forsyth Co. Census, 1441/1456 John Merret Jr. is only four households from the William Kiger family. What is the connection, if any, to the Merritt family?) Rose Berry is researching the Slaughter/Slawter family and would like to correspond with anyone who has information concerning William and Nancy Kiger. Rose's e-mail is: roseb@knology.net
