Orrell Family

Daniel Black Orrell was born 1769 in Maryland and was in the area of Rowan County on Abbotts Creek about 1792. This part of Rowan became Davidson County in 1822. By 1803 Daniel and his family had moved to nearby Browntown. Daniel was first married to Mary Emily Hutchinson and when she died in 1828, he married for the second time, Mahala Garrison, a daughter of Jesse Garrison and Mary Bodenhamer. The first marriage produced 13 children and Daniel and Mahala had 2 children, the last one being born when he was 65 years of age.

"It is thought he may have had a rift with the family about remarrying so soon after his first wife's death and marrying a younger woman. Daniel wasn't buried by his first wife, but one row over and all the way to the end of the row. His second wife is buried next to him." (Abbotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.) Extracted from Daniel Black Orrell and his Descendants, written and published by Robert Stanley Orrell. olebob@n-jcenter.com
