First Generation

Thomas Locke Davis (1789-1862) married Ann Frances Hill in Stokes County NC in 1809. Ann Frances Hill, a daughter of Capt. Robert Hill was born about 1787 and died in Yadkin County about 1833. They settled in the East Bend and Forbush areas of Yadkin County. After Ann's death he married again and moved to Tennesse with his second family sometime after 1837. Thomas died in 1862 and is buried in Boarnerger Baptist Church, Old Fort, Polk County, Tennessee.

The three children from the second marriage were all born in NC.

There are several diffferent versions of this family on the internet. Some say that Thomas Locke Davis married Elizabeth Cofer in 1825 in Morgan County, TN. That doesn't fit with the death date of his first wife, Ann Frances, who supposedly died in 1833 in Surry County, NC (Yadkin County was not formed until 1850 from Surry) nor does it fit with the birth of his children with Ann Frances. Thomas Locke and his second family are found in the 1850 and 1860 US Federal Census, Polk County, TN. His second wife Elizabeth, was born in North Carolina about 1798. There is a marriage bond in Surry County dated 14 May 1831 for Thomas Davis and Elizabeth Veach. How is she related to the Henson Veach living in Davidson County in 1830 and 1840? It is conceivable that Ann Frances shortly after giving birth to Julia Davis who was born in 1829. Elizabeth Davis (the 2nd wife) is also found in the 1870 Polk County census.
